Reiki and Your Hormones

Reiki is one of my favourite things to share with my clients.  At its core, Reiki is a Japanese technique to promote deep relaxation and healing.  Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) literally means higher life-force energy. Everything, including our bodies, is made up of this energy.

Energy lives in and through all things. Our bodies naturally respond to both the negative and positive vibrations that we encounter on a daily basis.

Reiki is a beautiful practice of rebalancing and centring this energy within our body again.

When our body experiences a state of physical or emotional stress, the natural flow of energy within us can become disrupted.  Reiki helps to restore our natural flow again and allows the body to heal.

In a nutshell, Reiki uses energy to help the body heal by focusing on our seven main chakras, each responsible for very specific areas of our bodies, but all are interconnected. You can think of your chakras as a beautiful river flowing through the body – promoting harmony between mind, body, and spirit. When there is an imbalance in one or more of the 7 chakras, this river can become blocked, and we are more susceptible to sickness and imbalance.

Having a Reiki treatment that balances and clears your chakras also helps to regulate and balance your hormones.  It also supports your body’s deep relaxation and stress response, which is crucial in order for natural healing in the body to occur.

Remember, when you’re operating in a low vibrational state (aka the body’s sympathetic or fight-or-flight mode) you’re more prone to illness, anxiety, and even hormonal imbalance.

Just another reason why Reiki is such a wonderful compliment to hormone coaching and hormone treatments.  Overall hormone balance requires the body to be in its parasympathetic (rest and digest) as often as possible. Which is HARD in this modern society — Reiki is a tool that can help.

In addition to Reiki’s incredible stress-relieving benefits, it also has the ability to create hormonal balance when addressing the 7 chakras.

Chakras

For example, our sacral chakra (right below the belly button), is the home of all our emotions, sexuality, creativity, and pleasure.  When the sacral chakra is out of balance, you may experience:

  • Painful periods

  • PMS

  • Heavy Bleeding

  • Endometriosis or PCOS

  • Fertility Issues

  • Hip and Pelvic Pain

  • Low Libido

  • Suppressed Creativity

Reiki can address energetic imbalances in the pituitary gland, thyroid, uterus, adrenals, and so much more.

REIKI CAN HEAL SYMPTOMS OF IMBALANCE

Imbalance – hormonal, emotional, systemic – happens at every stage of our lives, and can affect us in many ways.  Here are some symptoms of imbalance and how Reiki can heal them:

Perimenopause & Menopause
It’s true that hot flashes and insomnia are common side effects of perimenopause and menopause.  However, it doesn’t mean that you need to suffer hopelessly and indefinitely! A return to balance and calmness is possible, and Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful, technique for getting there. Reiki assists in calming the mind and provides a deeper sense of self-awareness.

Fertility: Reiki for Pregnancy, Birth, Postpartum
The energy in and around the reproductive systems is often very low, particularly if we have old emotional wounds stored in this area. This can affect the reproductive organs and hormone levels that support ovulation. Reiki enables the body to go into a deeply relaxed state, allowing women to experience a reduction in stress levels. When stress levels are reduced, the body is better able to maintain its balance, and its organs and systems can operate optimally.

Anxiety and Depression
These mood instabilities are caused by an imbalance, stress, and/or toxins in the body. Reiki helps by addressing the underlying causes and heals or reverses them.

Insomnia
Lack of sleep causes stress, emotional imbalance, and increased cortisol levels, all of which can cause hormonal imbalances. As with anxiety and depression, Reiki will treat the underlying issues of your insomnia, such as stress.

Digestion
Poor digestion can be caused by diet or hormonal imbalances. Digestive disorders and irritabilities can be treated with Reiki as it will soothe your internal workings, allowing everything to work more smoothly.

Weight Gain
A healthy and active lifestyle can help with weight control. However, things like insulin resistance or thyroid problems can contribute to weight gain. Reiki can help by balancing your insulin and thyroid through the transfer of healing energy.

Low Libido
One of the most noticeable symptoms of hormonal imbalances is a decreased sex drive. This is also caused by disturbed sleep patterns. Reiki can decrease your stress levels and help you sleep better so you and your partner can revive your romance.

Fatigue
If you’re reaching for coffee throughout the day and feel sluggish and mentally foggy, you’ve got fatigue. Though this is a symptom of hormonal imbalance, Reiki can heal this by making it easier for you to sleep. Reiki will also provide you with positive, revitalising energy so you are alert and energetic all day long.
